Tim Russert Has Died

One of this nation's finest journalists has died.

Just minutes ago, Tim Russert collapsed at his NBC office and died of a massive heart attack.

Anyone who knows me, knows I have a soft spot for journalists, and Russert chief among them. The 58-year-old host of "Meet the Press" and NBC's Washington Bureau Chief was a titanic giant in the industry.

I am heartbroken.

Tim Russert was a great journalist... although I had once considered him somewhat of a "soft" interviewer, my mind changed about him considerable over the years, especially since the release of his book, "Wisdoms of our Fathers". I have great respect for people who respect their elders and his death is a great loss to lovers of honest, non-confrontational political journalism.

I am now even more saddened by the passing on of special effects pioneer Stan Winston... he was one of my filmmaking heroes.
